Scholarship for Students Graduating from the Adult Learning Centre
The Chown Centennial Scholarship is an award offered to a student graduating from the Adult Learning Centre and entering the University of Manitoba.
This award is valued at $1000 and may be held together with:
- The Isabel Auld Entrance Scholarship
- The Chancellors’ Scholarship
- The President’s Laureate Scholarship
- The University of Manitoba Entrance Scholarships
- The Leader of Tomorrow Scholarships
A selection committee, consisting of staff members, will review all applications to nominate a recipient for this award at the convocation ceremony in June.
Criteria
Applicants must fulfill the following criteria to be considered for selection:
- Graduate from the Adult Learning Centre in either August, December or April of the graduation year (note that students upgrading are not eligible for this scholarship);
- Achieve a minimum average of 85 percent in the Grade 12 courses that allow the applicant to be eligible to enter any degree program at the University of Manitoba;
- Be admitted in and register for a full-time (24 credit hours) course load in the upcoming academic session in any direct-entry program;
- Complete the Chown Centennial Scholarship Application Form (available at the front desk);
- Prepare an academic essay (500 words maximum) detailing the following:
- Reasons why the applicant should be selected as the recipient;
- Future goals and/or plans of the applicant; and
- Examples of citizenship, leadership and/or volunteering;
- Provide a letter of recommendation from someone outside the school who is nota relative; and
- Submit all application related items to front desk staff within the third week of May.
